Best Ab Exercises for Building 6-Pack Abs
Men's Health expert fitness trainer Craig Ballantyne believes that men and women can lose their belly fat and get flat lower abs with fast fat loss workouts.
He even believes you can "spot reduce" and lose your tummy fat with a specific type of exercise -- and no, it's not ab crunches. Plus, he knows specific abdominal exercises that can flatten your lower abs.
"The classic ab crunch is generally a waste of time because the ab crunch doesn't work the entire main ab muscle (rectus abdominis). There are other better, unique ab exercises that men and women can do to flatten their lower abs," Ballantyne advises.
"And if you want to lose belly fat, forget about doing long, slow boring cardio for fat loss," Ballantyne insists. "You'll get more results in less time in your fat burning workouts by using interval training for fat loss.
This was proven by a research study from Australia, who found that only interval training helped women lose belly fat, while doing cardio for twice as long did not!"
Some of Ballantyne's favorite abdominal exercises can be done with just your bodyweight or need only a common exercise ball.
Here's a list of just a few of his favorite total body ab exercises that will help you get a flat stomach (provided you combine these exercises with interval training for fat loss):
Exercise Ball Ab Rollouts
Kneel on a mat and place your clasped hands on the top of a medium sized ball. Brace your abs and slowly lean forward and roll your hands over the ball while the ball moves away from your body. Keep your body in a straight line and go as far as you can with perfect form. Contract your abs and reverse the motion to return to the upright position.
Hanging Leg Raise
Hang from a chin-up bar using an underhand grip. Brace your abs. With a slight bend in your knees, curl your hips back and raise your legs up in front of you until they are parallel to the floor. Don't use momentum. Go slow and controlled both ways.
Side Planks
Raise your body in a straight line so that your body hovers over the mat. Keep your back straight and your hips up. Hold your abs tight. Contract them as if someone was about to punch you in the stomach, but breath normally.
Plank with Your Arms on the Ball
Place your clasped hands on the top of a medium sized ball. Keep your body in a straight line from shoulders to toes and keep your abs braced.
Plus, if you have access to a commercial gym, his favorite resistance exercises for your abs -- to help you build a set of 6-pack abs -- include:

Cable Chops
Stand sideways beside a cable stack with your right shoulder closest to the stack. Attach a handle to the highest pulley position. Grasp the handle over your right shoulder with arms extended and a slight bend at the elbow. Your knees should be slightly bent and your hips slightly pushed back. Prepare for the exercise by bracing (contracting) your abdominals from top to bottom. Without bending at the elbows any further, bring your arms down and across the body using your abs to initiate the movement. Focus on working your abs and obliques. Bring your hands across to your left hip pocket and then slowly return to the start. Perform all reps for one side and then switch.
Kneeling Cable Ab Crunches
Attach a rope handle to the top of a cable pulley system. Kneel in front of the pulley and hold the rope behind your head. Brace your abs, and curl your torso forward. Your arms should remain above your head during the crunch. Slowly return to the start position.
Do two exercises twice per week, and do intervals 3 times per week for best result

How to melt your belly Fat away:

If you are ready for a high intensity workout for your abs, this whole body routine is amazing, even more so because it doesn't use any direct ab exercises.
Before we start, you do know that unless you eat clean you are never ever going to have a tight flat stomach or sexy six pack abs to show off.
However well developed your abs become, if you can't eat mainly whole unprocessed lean protein, complex carbs and unsaturated fats in the right portions and proportions at the right times of day, killer abs are off the agenda, cause they will always be hiding behind a stubborn layer of belly fat.
Now for the killer abs tri set. (Like a super set but with 3 rather than 2 exercises).
Go for 3-4 sets with 8 reps as a ballpark starting point. Rest between 30 seconds to 1 minute between each exercise and around 1-2 minute once you've completed each cycle of 3.
Take the longer rest if you are an ectomorph (hard gainer). Push yourself on with the least rest if you are an endomorph.
1. The first exercise of the high intensity workout is the renegade dumbbell row. Grab a couple of dumbbells and hit the pushup position.
Row one arm, stabilise with the other. Alternate the movement for 8 reps. You are going to really feel this one, but it's a good hurt.
2. Squats. You gotta love them. Try front squats. You'll probably need someone to check your form when you start out, but front squats where you hold the bar across the front of your shoulders with your elbows up and out force your abs into extreme stabilization mode.
3. Mountain Climbers on Floor. Get back into pushup position and shuffle your feet up and down so that your knees move under your chest and out again.
If you are a glutton for punishment, get your hands moving forward and back as well.
This is one of the best set of ab exercises around, working your abs hard while toning the rest of your body. And it feels so good when it stops.
If you're over messing about with traditional ab exercises and weirdo gadgets you can read more about the Truth About Abs. Find out the best ways to eat and exercise for your body type. while you're there.
Crunches are a joke, a complete waste of time if you want abs.
Goodbye situps, hello intervals.
There's no such thing as spot reducing exercises, but according to Australian research, interval training can actually help spot reduce belly fat more than body fat anywhere else on the body, so when you do interval training and you lose fat it's mostly coming from around your abs.
Interval training is a big part of Turbulence Training, obviously that means that people are going to have a great opportunity to lose belly fat and therefore see their abdominals better than ever before.
Save time by cutting the crunches out of your life.

And we only use the best exercises incorporated into a total body workout to boost metabolism and help get your abdominal muscles ready so that when you get the body fat off you'll see them.
Total body exercises can build 6-pack abs as fast as crunches. Commercial gyms make workouts easy and ineffective.
So that's why we use these, what I call multi-muscle exercises, rather than sitting down in a machine type of exercises.
You can burn stomach fat and get abs at home with minimal equipment.
Most people don't realize how hard their stomach is working to maintain that proper pushup position when actually doing the movement. And most of the exercises I do for the abs people wouldn't think that they are for the abs like the pushup.
People still tend to believe movements like crunches and other exercises where you're laying on your back work your abs the best. Lose your gut with short burst cardio. Screw situps. You never have to do another if you want nice abs.
And you know what? The best abdominals that I ever saw on people were on athletes who had never actually done any abdominal exercises in their entire lives.
They were just very fit athletes but their sporting movements and their other training gave them the abdominals that most people want. I've trained people with great abs who have never, ever done an ab workout.
So, again, don't get too hung up on the abdominal exercises, especially the ones you see in magazines that are talking about these 30 minute ab routines. Experts like to waste your time with boring ab routines. It gives them what they want but not what they need. So, don't get hung up on the ab exercises, the crunches and that type of stuff, just focus on getting rid of that body fat and you'll be surprised at how good your abs are even without spending a lot of time on your abs.
